Wednesday, 12 November 2008 – Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad and the Brunei Energy Association (BEnA) are representing Brunei Darussalam in the 10th Gas Information Exchange for the Western Pacific (GASEX) 2008 conference and exhibition, which opens from today 12 to 15 November 2008, held at the National Convention Centre, Hanoi, Vietnam.
Haji Matsatejo Sokiaw, Senior General Manager (Plant) led the Brunei LNG delegation, whilst Haji Zainal Abidin Haji Ali, President of BEnA and also the Deputy Managing Director of Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) led the BEnA delegation. The BEnA president will also be chairing the Natural Gas Technology Conference on Thursday 13th November 2008.
The participation from Brunei LNG shows its continuous commitment to its buyers and stakeholders, in terms of promoting Brunei LNG as a reliable and a supplier of first choice to all its stakeholders. In addition, as an LNG exporter of nearly 40 years, it is one of excellent platforms to highlight the country’s readiness for more LNG business beyond 2013, when the current supply contracts to Japan and South Korea expire. Meanwhile, BEnA, a non-profit association sponsored by Brunei LNG plays a major role, especially in the development of the energy industry and in disseminating and giving emphasis in energy conservation and efficiency to the society of Brunei Darussalam, in which BEnA will be responsive in the call to participate in the preservation, conservation and efficient use of energy The chairman of the organising committee, Dr Tran Ngoc Canh, President & CEO, PETROVIETNAM stated that the theme of this year’s conference and exhibition, ‘Sustaining Integration and Development’ aims to bring together the best minds in the gas industry, in sharing and exchanging their views, knowledge, and expertise. While the conference emphasises on the need for regional integration towards sustainability, the exhibition highlights major players and key movers in the gas industry. Ever since its first conference in 1990, and after nine conferences over a span of more than 10 years, GASEX, the Western Pacific’s official platform for the gas industry has become an important international activity for the mutual coordination, communication and exchanges among all member organisations and major gas enterprises in the region. The 15-member economies include Australia, Brunei Darussalam, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and Vietnam.
GASEX 2008 features keynote address, plenary sessions, panel discussions, and breakout session covering a wide-range of issues including current economic situations of GASEX member economics, regional gas supply and demand, gas applications and utilization, among others. There are 18 international gas companies and 150 service providers and suppliers participating in the exhibition. Brunei Darussalam played host to the same conference and exhibition in 2002. |
